Stafford Colts come out victors 54 - 26 of a very ambitious Burntwood Colts team.
Despite not touching much of the ball in the opening minutes of the game, it was Stafford who opened the score through Misa Veramu in the 6th minute thanks to a very aggressive defence by Stafford’s colts, the conversion narrowly missed by Fly Half James Lynk.
Burntwood quickly responded with a converted try 3 minutes later taking the score to 5-7.
The next 10 minutes saw Stafford camp in Burntwood’s half and we’re finally rewarded for their efforts with a try by number 8 Kayden “Sully” Robinson at the 21st minute with a conversion secured by James Lynk.
Ten minutes later, it was James Reay’s turn to come crashing over Burntwood’s try line for another converted try by Fly Half James:
making the score 19-7 at the half time whistle.
The second half started in emphatic manner for Stafford having operated a few changes , bringing on the “bomb squad” - Kirby, Finnster, DJ , Ollie Croft and Jack Raine .
It only took 6 minutes for Stafford to see Raine, Clement and Osmant cross the line , with all 3 tries converted by replacement fly half Henry Ralph, aggravating the score to a more than comfortable 40-7.
This convinced the coaching team to take off Kirby, Clements and Osmant to try and keep the game more balanced.
Still Stafford were on the charge and Jack Raine ripped through Burntwood’s defence to score his second try of the night, making it 47-7, Raine converting his own try.
16 minutes in the second half saw Stafford on the receiving of a yellow card for James Reay, that’s all Burntwood needed to score a try almost straight away bringing the score to 47-12.
The next 10 minutes saw both packs battle it out in the middle of the park with Burntwood scoring their 3rd try of the night , 47-19.
Almost straight from the restart Stafford were back on the front foot with Jack Raine scoring another marvel try, making it his 3rd on the night, this time Converted by Misa Veramu.
It was Burntwood that were to have the last say on the night scoring their last try and ending the night on a 54-26 score line for the home team.
Coaches comments:
A brilliant performance from a team predominantly made of U17 lads , we could not be happier to see how hard the lads have worked for each other to dominate a team that has caused us so much problems in previous seasons.
We had some of the senior players on the bench but in the end we didn’t really need them but it was great to see them support and cheer on their team mates.
Special mention to Tom Brodrick who was playing his first rugby game ever and to Freddy Sutton who having only very recently turned to Scrum Half showed some real potential in that position.
The future is clearly bright!!
