Convincing win for the colts under the lights on Friday night

Stafford Colts A hosted Burntwood colts on Friday night under the lights.

Stafford Colts started the match in very determined fashion putting Burntwood under pressure right from the kick off. Sam Edwards opened the scoring with a snipping dive from the base of a ruck on the Burntwood try line. Then Liam Quidos, who had made several determined carries in the build-up, barrelled his way over the try line to score his first ever try. Burntwood were not having much of the ball and took the opportunity to kick a penalty after 19 minutes. From the resulting restart however, Stafford pilled into the Burntwood 22 and Charlie Kirby forced his way over out wide. The next Stafford score came when Charlie Kirby picked up from number 8 and fed Fin Osmat who crashed through the Burntwood cover defense. From the re-start Stafford worked the ball to midfield and managed to put Fin Osmat through a hole in the Burntwood back line. Fin rampaged up field and was dragged down just inside the opposition 22 but he offloaded the ball to Aiden Baker on his shoulder who completed the move to score under the posts. Seb Conaghan added the only conversion of the fist half, half time score being 27 – 3 to Stafford.

The second half was a much more even game. Burntwood scored the first of their two converted tries after 13 minutes but Stafford replied with a try of their own following a penalty move on the Burntwood line scored by Charlie Kirby under the posts. Conversion added by Seb Conaghan. Aiden Barker scored his second try of the evening following a break down the blind side from center field to score in the corner. Burtwood replied with their second converted try of the evening after some poor tackling from Stafford allowed one of their big forwards to break through and score under the posts. However, Stafford did not let that setback put them of their excellent display so far and they scored their eighth try of the game when Oliver Croft broke through the Burntwood line and scored under the posts, Henry Perks adding the simple conversion. Final score 46 – 17 to Stafford.

It was an excellent display from Stafford colts against a traditionally strong Burtwood side especially considering that this was the A side and the majority of the senior colts were not playing. There was a good crowd watching the match and they were thoroughly entertained with some bright and exciting play from the colts.

Well done guys keep on improving and we will see you all at training.
