A cold windy afternoon saw Stafford travel up the road to local team Penkridge RUFC for only the second time of putting a team out this season. The squad was mixed including old returning players, colts, players coming off injury and some familiar faces in what turned out to be a try filled event showcasing many of Stafford’s returning and future stars.

Early tries from Archie Bent and Christian Stelian, put an immediate Stafford lead onto the scoreboard. The visiting scrum looked very impressive pushing Penkridge around the pitch. A yellow card temporarily reduced the County Town team to fourteen. Penkridge looked to take advantage of the extra man piling on the pressure. The Stafford defence wouldn’t break and they managed to keep Penkridge out before eventually turning the ball over. Penkridge put up a good defensive effort but their attack couldn’t find its way into gear. Further tries from Phil Dewick and two for our captain Ben Pryce helped push Stafford into a comfortable first half lead.

Halftime saw a few changes for both squads but again Stafford youngsters shone brightly. Tom Dunn taking a quick try to add to the widening tally on the score board. Stafford remained relentless keeping a crippling pressure on a hard-working Penkridge. The next try saw old dog Gaz Phillips powering over the line to score his first points of the game. The scoring didn’t stop with more tries coming as Brett Corcoran and Dan Watts adding two each, Gaz Phillips and Phil Dewick taking their second of the game. Adding to the convincing win were six conversions from Christian Stelian and a conversion each for Dan Watts, Matt Walklate and Phil Kay.

Drinks in the bar and our captain sealing the deal in the boat race put an end to what was a great away day for Stafford. All played in great spirits with excellent support from both home and away fans.
