Longton 34 – 17 Stafford
Stafford development team travelled to Longton for their final league game before the Christmas break.
A very young Stafford development team took up the challenge against a very experience Longton team. The first score was the result of a great move from Tom Kowalewski on the blind, passing the ball to Matt Parton for the try. Longton replied quickly with a break away try to even the scores and a second soon followed just before half time to give them the lead. Stafford weren’t done and moving the ball to the wing released Jonny Carr using all of his pace to dodge round a few players and score in the corner, Tim Woolman slotting the conversion. Stafford went into half time drawing 12 -12 but having held their own against a fighting Longton XV.
Longton roared into the second half scoring a succession of very quick tries to open up a strong lead. Stafford used all of the development team spirit to stay positive and stop any further tries happening. Longton were then reduced to 13 players but unfortunately the visitors couldn’t exploit the advantage. It was Stafford who had the final word as Jonny Carr grabbed his second of the afternoon following some excellent work.
With a young and developing side Stafford can hold their heads high for the passion which they played against a very good Longton team. As a team manager it is great to see that the club is moving forward and bringing on a very talented pool of young players.
