Leek 32 – 28 Stafford
Stafford were on the road again, destination Leek for their penultimate league game of the year. The county town team travelled with a developed team which had a lot of experience.
Stafford started the afternoon slowly and they quickly realised that it was going to be a hard afternoon of rugby against a well organised and drilled Leek team. The hosts piled on all of the early pressure forcing the visitors to chase the game after scoring two tries and a penalty for the lead. After some moments of quality the travelling Stafford XV managed to fight their way back into the game, tries by Chris Hinchliffe and Callum Perry were both converted by Phil Dewick to narrow the deficit. Stafford went into half time having kept contact with the hosts in a Leek dominated performance.
Stafford started the second half the strongest and put Leek under some well-practiced pressure. Tries from Brett Corcoran and Chris Hinchliffe were converted by Phil Dewick to give the visitors the lead. Leek fought their way back into the game and long periods of possession together with some fresh legs off the bench took enough points out of the remainder of the game to earn a narrow win for the home side.
