Combined Fiveways, Towcester team v Stafford Women's 2nd XV

Stafford’s IWS squad travelled away to Fiveways on Sunday 8th October.
The host team had a scratch team of 6 players so joined with Towcester’s 12 players to play Stafford’s 12 players (due to last minute availability issues) 12 a side.
An unexpectedly warm, sunny day with good conditions on the pitch, Stafford lost the coin toss so the combined Fiveways/Towcester side received the kick and ran in an early score via the wing.
Playing against Stafford’s predominately forward strong team of 12, the opposition capitalised on the wider channels & continued to run in tries from receiving Stafford’s kick offs.
Lack of possession & several people playing out of their usual positions hampered Stafford’s efforts but after several tries against them they eventually managed to get hands on the ball & made good territory & several phases. The scrums were strong but the opposition were very adept at the breakdown.
Following an injury, Danielle Bayley reacted quickly & made an impressive break to score Stafford’s only try, a great example of playing to the whistle.
Despite the score line, everyone left the field smiling, game time is really important.
