Stafford U16 Roses V Tamworth - National Cup 10-12-23

Sharon Roberts11 Dec 2023 - 17:39

A brilliant display from all of the girls with everyone doing their part

Match Report by: Matt Birch

The Stafford girls seemed up for this game and were straight at Tamworth not letting them settle at all. After just a few minutes Eve took the ball from the back of a scrum on Tamworth’s 22 metre line and ran through and around a couple of tackles to score out to the right, conversion missed.
5-0
From the kick off a bit of swapping possession and a crunching Ava tackle, also some big hits coming in from some of Tamworth’s bigger girls which the girls did well to withstand.
Stafford managed to turnover a Tamworth lineout and several direct runs followed by a couple of passes down the line enabled Eve to get another, conversion missed.
10-0
Stafford then came under the first bit of real pressure in the game with Tamworth just 10 metres out but great defence by both forwards and backs saw the ball turned over and a barnstorming run by Peggy up to the hallway line, a knock on gave Tamworth a scrum but a big push from the girls turned the ball over which went a couple of passes down the line finishing with Eve running it under the posts, Izzy converted.
17-0
More Stafford pressure after the kick off with all the girls working hard, Sophia went on a great run dodging tackles before the ball was worked out again finding Eve in the middle of the pitch, she broke and rolled through a couple of tackles for a straight run under the posts, Connie converted.
24-0
Another good run from Sophia after the kick off with Summer also growing into the game and breaking through before a last-ditch tackle stopped her from going through. Izzy then went into full on beast mode running through several tackles, the ball ended up with Sienna who showed great acceleration to run it over and then across to under the posts, Connie converted.
31-0
Tamworth were really struggling were the girls directness, speed and willingness to run at, and around them, typified by another great run from Summer who was nearly away again save some desperate tackling but Tori still popping up with the ball to score her first of the day, Connie scored the conversion.
38-0
There was then a bit of back and forth between the teams around the halfway, a Tamworth scrum saw the ball then passed along their line and a big hit from Ruby that stopped their player in her tracks. Another strong run from Izzy a few minutes later saw Stafford deep in Tamworth’s half again. Stafford won a line out but then knocked on giving Tamworth a scrum which saw them then break out with their player clear and well over halfway looking odds on to score. Tori had other ideas though and turned on the after burners catching their player with a try saving tackle which was then followed by a Tamworth knock on. Great runs from both Winnie and Eleanor followed and then Ava got the ball and showed good speed to break through and score under the posts, Sienna converted.
45-0

Following discussing between referee and coaches about mixing up the teams, the Tamworth wanted to play on as a team so play resumed,

Olivia continued doing what she had done all game with neat and effective scrum half play. Staffs continued to dominate with a great run from Beth who was close to scoring but tackled not far out, Summer had supported well picking up the ball and passing to Tori who got her second of the day.
Some mixed play followed with a great jackal from Izzy and a strong run from Tori who returned the favour to Summer for her to get the try that her display deserved. There was still time for another great Beth run and pick up try from Eve.
Add on game finished 15-0.
Tori, Summer and Eve try scorers.

Great to see Laila back from injury and well done to Georgia W for her debut!

A brilliant display from all of the girls with everyone doing their part, and then finishing off the day celebrating together at the bowling, doesn't get much better!
