It was a long trip down the M6 for a cold and damp first fixture of 2023. It was always going to be a tough game as we know from Barker Butts visit to us earlier in the season.
As we had 12, BB loaned Stafford 2 players who really worked hard playing for Stafford.
BB came out a strong side, using their 4 key players to their advantage and putting our defence under pressure, scoring a couple of tries quite quickly.
Stafford got back into the game with some great teamwork and managed to feed the ball to Tori to score a try, converted by Connie.
There was continued strong play by both teams, with 2 more great tries from Tori for Stafford, a conversion from Connie and unluckily another try from Tori just held up.
The first half ended 35-19.
The second half saw several missed opportunities for Stafford to score, including from a penalty awarded only a few yards out. There was a great run by Rubi which saw her just miss out on her first try when she was brought down at the line. BB managed another 3 tries this half.
Some fierce tackling against strong side, it was a tough game with a lots of bumps.
The final score of the game 19-56.
As with the previous meeting, the score line does not reflect the challenge that Stafford put up.
Heads up and back to training Tuesday ready for next weekend over at Lichfield.
