Panthers go toe to toe with Old Yardlians

The U18 Panthers delivered a performance of resilience and teamwork in their fixture against OY. Every player stepped up, took responsibility for their decision‑making, and showed real maturity in game management. There were loads of positives throughout the match, and the girls should all feel incredibly proud of their efforts.

First Half
The Panthers started with good intent, moving with slow but steady momentum going through many phases of play. Although a couple of early breakaway tries went against the run of play.
OY opened the scoring, but the some
Wonderful handling from both forward and backs released Fraya stretched her legs to score to score a try down the wing. , levelling the tone of the game and setting up a competitive first half. OY managed to regain the lead before both teams entered a physical, competitive battle for dominance in the middle third.
A stoppage in play following an OY injury gave the Panthers a moment to reset. They came back sharper and more focused, applying sustained pressure that opened the door for Tink, who powered over the line to give Stafford the advantage.
At half time, the Panthers deservedly led 17–14, with momentum growing and confidence rising.
Second Half
The second half brought its challenges—tired legs, a few knocks, and some moments of hesitation—but the girls dug deep once again.
Lily sparked the team back into life, driving through the defensive line to score and adding a successful conversion to extend the lead with Niamh scoring a conversion
Later in the half, Elli from Worcester added the Panthers’ final try of the match, finishing strongly before unfortunately picking up an injury herself. Her contribution was key in keeping the scoreboard tight.
Despite the Panthers’ relentless effort, OY pushed back late in the game, eventually edging ahead to secure the win. The final score, 31–24, doesn’t fully reflect the work rate, determination, and courage shown by the Panthers from the first whistle to the last.

Final Thoughts
The girls adapted under pressure, made strong decisions, supported one another, and never stopped competing. A few tough breakaway tries could have shaken them, but instead they battled on with real Panthers spirit.
They should hold their heads high—there is so much to be proud of, and so much to build on.
Forward: Lily
