U18 Pitch up and Play

Sue Morley-Smith15 Sep - 13:49

Stafford, Crewe & Nantwich, Tamworth Burton and Ashby

"I don't care what the weatherman says, the weatherman says it'll rain, there's no need to complain!" - that the girls did not.

The second weekend of the rugby season, a home tournament for the girls. The warm-up saw the start of the drizzle, but there was no mizzle, excitement of another practice run of their drills and skills from the girls.

Stafford vs Crewe & Nantwich

A cold, relentless curtain of rain - shockingly soaked the team, but not their spirits. With a super first run from Sophia, scoring the first try of the game, followed by Izzy, then Ava. The U18 Panthers, with their hair plastered to their temples, their shirts and shorts clinging to them like a second, heavy skin. demonstrated great team work.

The game continued to play with control given the conditions—a series of rapid runs saw further tries from Niamh, Fraya, Sienna and Georgia.

The eight tries were scored through relentless pace and sheer determination. With 5 conversion from Niamh. END score 50 v 0

Stafford vs Tamworth/Ashby/Burton (combined)

The rain attempted to dampen the spirits of the girls, however with the true TREDS team spirit some players stepped up and supported Tamworth/Ashby/Burton team due to some of the team injuries. Thanks and shout out to Chloe, Olivia and Jess ( As they also offered to support the Crewe game too)

A slower game, with more turnovers and stop start play due to the slippery AGP. The energy remained leading the way to Niamh scoring the first try of this game.

Tamworth/Ashby and Burton broke free from the forwards clutches to score the next try.

The ball became a live fish, impossibly slick, zipping from hand to hand but also squirming free occasionally. Passes weren’t dropped; they were fumbled, skidding off fingertips and chests. Several offloads between the back lead to Georgia and Esme scoring two further tries. The final try was completed by Georgia giving her the first hat trick of the season.

Niamh and her super new kicking boots converted 3 of the tries END score 31 v 5.

Thanks to all the teams who came and competed in great spirit in monsoon conditions.
