Stafford and Shropshire lost out in a 100-point thriller in a cracking advert for mixed ability rugby.
Hooker Zack Pressland and centre Reuben Sutton were the stars of the show as the homes side racked up eight tries only to fall three points short in a see-saw battle.
Luctonians made the long journey with only 14-men - but with the SaS boasting a 20-strong squad, Jack West sportingly joined the visitors in the first period of the game with Jonny Smith swapping sides in the second.
And it was Luctonians who got off to a flyer racking up three tries in the opening minutes to suggest the game was going to be a one-sided affair. But that was the last they would have things all their own way as the visitors were stopped in their tracks with Player of the Match performances from the reliable Pressland and tricky Sutton helping drag the home side back into the match.
It was Pete Mills who started the comeback with a quickly taken penalty inside the 22 and his run to the line was unstoppable - with Sutton adding the extra points.
Mills was involved minutes later when he used Gaz Philips as a decoy from a penalty five metres out to send a pass to Chris Banton who ran a perfect line to touch down. Pressland nailing the conversion.
The tide swung towards SaS with forward Dan Parton now getting more involved to set up attacks and James Hughes coming on to the wing. Unfortunately, the first half also saw centre Tom Dellicompagni limp from the field with a knee injury.
After 30 minutes full-back Sebastian Conaghan, making his senior debut on his 18th birthday started a mazy run from his own half and left a handful of defenders in his wake to reduce the deficit. Sutton converted.
The pack were now making several inroads to the Luctonians back-line with Phillips leading the charge, ably supported by Matt Powell, Banton and Simon MacDonald.
Mills added to his tally before half time, with Hughes making the conversion - and a cleverly worked half-back interchange between Matt Smith and Mark Broomhall, saw the latter making his way over and put the home side in the lead going into the break.
The visitors hit back, finding space out wide to run in a few tries and regain the lead in the second half.
Fortunately, the non-stop running of Sutton, Hughes and Alex Barclay, and the determination around the breakdown of Pressland and Parton made up for some weary legs on the home side.
Minutes before the end the aggressive West was able to break several tackles and force his way over the line to narrow the margin - giving SaS some hope of stealing the win.
Then in the dying seconds a wonderful move started with several phases from the forwards to set up ball through the hands of the backs. The returning Malcolm Heath and Sutton played their part for Broomhall to grab his second try of the match.
It was not to be enough with the final successful Sutton conversion signaling an end to the epic encounter.
