U15's start with a win against Ashbourne on the first outing at the new club

Stafford u15’s played Ashbourne u15’s on the AGP and continued the winning theme for the opening weekend at the new club. The conditions were perfect for open running rugby and that’s exactly how the game started. Stafford opened the first half in inspired form with some dynamic runs from the back line and some determined rucking from the forwards. The first u15’s try at the new club was scored by Gurman Seehra after a fantastic run from full back by Max Jones who was stopped just short of the line by some desperate Ashbourne tackling and Gurman was on-hand to finish the move off. The opening try was followed by another two spectacular long distance try’s both scored off run’s that started in their own half by George Stevenson and Jack Taylor-Holiday. Towards the end of the first half Ashbourne started to come back into the game but some determined defence by the Stafford team kept them at bay. The first half scoring was completed by Hugo Sutton who burst over the line from short range following a lineout 5 meters from the Ashbourne try line. Some superb kicking from Billy Jones meant that the half time score was 26 – 0 to Stafford.

The second half was a lot more even as Ashbourne started to find their way back into the game and they scored two unconverted tries of their own. But these were matched by Stafford with a short range try from Dylan Wilde and a scorching long range break from a maul on half way by Harvey Garcia. This meant that the final score was 36 – 10 to Stafford which was a great result for both the u15’s and the Stafford club as a whole.

It felt like the Stafford side got back to how they were playing at the end of last season, lots of good passing and determined counter rucking leading to lots of turnovers and being able to turn defence into attacking situations. The lads seemed to play with a smile on their face and the team comradery was evident for all to see. It was a very pleasing return to form from a coaching perspective and on a celebratory weekend for the Stafford club as a whole, a fitting way for the u15’s to christen the new pitch and 1st team changing rooms on behalf of the junior section.
Well done lads, keep it up for the remainder of the season now.
