Staffordshire U20’s and Seniors Team Manager (2 Posts)

Salary: Honorary Position remuneration subject to discussion.

Job Description
The Team Manager will work in partnership with the Lead Coach in managing the Staffordshire Delivery Team and the playing programme to achieve the objectives set by County Management Team.
The Delivery Team is expected to work in conjunction and co-operation with each other, to produce the Staffordshire County Squad. The Team Manager will be expected to have excellent Communication and Administrative skills to ensure that the environment the Delivery Team and Playing Squad work in is extremely well organised and positive.
The appointment is for three years’ subject to an annual review.
The responsibilities will include supporting the assessment & selection process and the playing & match preparation for the County XV. The post holder will be expected to ensure that the Training and Match Day organisation is exemplary and ensure that all members of the Delivery Team and Playing Squad adhere to the programme throughout the season. They will be expected to attend all training sessions and matches.
Applicants should demonstrate experience of leading Delivery teams at Club/School level or higher; The Team Manager is expected to set the standards for both Delivery Team and players, as well as have an affinity with the Community Game.

TEAM MANAGER FOR SENIORS AND UNDER 20s MENS TEAMS

The Team Manager will report to the Staffordshire Chair of Playing/DOR.

The Team Manager will be a member of the Staffordshire Delivery Team.

Roles and Responsibilities
1 In partnership with the Lead Coach, he will lead and manage the Staffordshire squad, assistant coaches, medical team, and the playing programme to achieve the objectives set by County Management Team
2 Compile and agree each season’s programme in consultation with the Staffordshire Delivery Team.
3 Ensure details of the budget are communicated to the Staffordshire Treasurer and that the programme is delivered within this budget.
4 Ensure that all players and members of the Staffordshire Delivery Team conduct themselves in a manner which reflects the Codes of Conduct to which they have agreed.
5 Carry out appropriate disciplinary actions as required and directed by the Staffordshire Management Team.
6 Ensure that the Delivery Team and players adhere to the squad programme and timetable.
7 Make suitable arrangements within the programme to ensure that the squad meets the timetable for all fixtures.
8 Ensure that any concerns regarding the participation of players (e.g., due to changes in circumstance, personal information, disclosure of Child Protection issues) that are brought to light are communicated to the Staffordshire Safeguarding Officer. Be in possession of an enhanced DBS certificate or will be willing to complete the necessary RFU forms upon appointment and ensure all the Management Team have an enhanced DBS Certificate.
9 Responsibility to ensure all documentation adheres to GDPR requirements.
10 Assist in the pastoral care of the players as required.
11 Work in conjunction with the Delivery Team to provide administrative support to the players.
12 Inform all squad members of relevant meetings, coaching sessions and matches.
13 Maintain an up-to-date player contact database.
14 Liaise with the Delivery Team from other Counties on issues such as venues, kick off times etc.
15 Attend all trials, coaching sessions, matches, and meetings involved with the squad.
16 Carry out an annual review of the programme and the Delivery Team and with them produce a report at the end of each season.
17 The Team Manager should liaise with the Chair of Playing to produce an advertisement and form an interview panel to appoint a Lead Coach and Assistant Coaches.

Tenure
Tenure is normally for three years, subject to satisfactory annual appraisal.

Commitment
Whilst the post holder will be offered a high degree of flexibility to fulfill the above Roles and Responsibilities by utilising their personal strengths, the following time commitments would appear to be the minimum required to successfully fulfill the demands of the post.
 Attend U20’s Divisional Trials
 Attend all squad training sessions and matches

Skills and Qualities
• Commitment and Enthusiasm – This position will require a large time commitment involving some evenings and weekends.
• Leadership – The Team Manager sets the example and standards for the Management team.
• Punctuality – The Team Manager sets the standards for the Management team.
• Planning –The Team Manager is personally responsible for planning the Squad programme and processes for the season.
• Delegation – The Team Manager needs to be able to delegate responsibility to his Delivery Team to ensure that they feel valued, and their expertise is used effectively.
• Teamwork – The Team Manager needs to be able to work effectively with the Coaches.
• Rugby Knowledge – It is expected that the Team Manager will have the required level of knowledge and expertise to effectively manage the Staffordshire Squads playing at the highest level.
• Communication - Effective communication and distribution to all players and coaches of programme-related information.

Administrators and Coaches Code of Conduct

Everyone involved in rugby in Staffordshire, whether a Player, Coach, Referee, Administrator, Parent or Spectator is expected to uphold the Core values of our sport:
Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline & Sportsmanship.
Administration and Coaching must demonstrate a high degree of honesty, integrity, and competence. The need for administrators and coaches to understand and act on their responsibilities is of critical importance in Staffordshire, as is the need to protect the key concept of participation for fun and enjoyment, as well as achievement.

The key principles relating to the interaction between administrators, coaches and players are:
• Relationships – administrators and coaches must develop a relationship with the players based on openness, honesty, mutual trust, and respect.
• Responsibilities - personal standards - you, as an administrator or coach, must always demonstrate proper personal behaviour and conduct. You are an ambassador for Staffordshire at all times during your appointment.
• Responsibilities - professional standards - to maximise benefits and minimise the risks to players, coaches must attain a high level of competence through qualifications and a commitment to ongoing training that ensures safe, current, and correct practice.
• Winning is not everything - teach your players to enjoy taking part and performing to the best of their ability. Encourage and enable each player to reach his or her fullest potential, which in turn will ensure that the team is performing at its best.
• Never abuse, shout at, criticise or ridicule player for making mistakes or losing a game. Do not cause a player to lose self-esteem by embarrassing, humiliating, or undermining them at any time.
• Motivate your players through praise, positive feedback, and constructive criticism.
• Be organised - establish a structure for the county season, prepare a coaching plan for each session, have the appropriate kit. Above all, communicate to players and fellow coaches to set the correct expectations.
• Make sure players further develop an understanding of the Laws of the Game, that they respect opponents, teammates, coaches, administrators, and officials at all times when representing Staffordshire.
• Never question an official's judgement or honesty.
• Ensure all players behaviour is appropriate and in keeping with the spirit of the game and the expectations of Staffordshire CB.
• Never enter the playing arena (the pitch) during a match unless specifically invited to do so by the match official.
• As representatives of Staffordshire, administrators and coaches must not approach players to change clubs.
