Stafford 13 – 7 Camp Hill
Stafford were looking for a win after last week’s defeat by the league leaders and welcomed Camp Hill. The last time the two teams had met, Camp Hill had come away with the honours.
The first ten minutes of the match the teams looked evenly matched and the away side couldn’t quite capitalise on a Stafford mistake, missing the first penalty. Stafford settled into play and through some excellent play earned a penalty which Matt Walklate converted into the home side’s first points of the afternoon. Stafford continued to apply pressure and in a well worked move Carl Williams broke through the Camp Hill defence to pass to Tom Williams for Stafford’s first try. Play moved backwards and forwards across the pitch for the rest of the half with neither side gaining further advantage. Camp Hill finishing the half reduced to 14. The home side went into half time leading 8-0.
The second half saw some great running by the Stafford backs. The Camp Hill defence unravelled and Matt Walklate passed the ball for Mitch Averis to run in the home side’s second try. Neither side could then get the advantage until Stafford were also penalised and reduced to 14 men. Camp Hill saw an opportunity, piling on the pressure to earn themselves a penalty try and conversion near the end of the second half. Stafford finished the game with a well-earned win 13-7.
