Bridgnorth 73 – 0 Stafford
Stafford set out on the road for a daunting encounter against a flying Bridgnorth. The Shropshire side are this seasons runaway league leaders boasting an unblemished record without a single loss. This was always going to be a difficult encounter for the gutsy Stafford XV.
Stafford had the better of the first 10 minutes of the game, holding the home side deep in their own half and with some promising attacking play. Bridgnorth pounced on a loose ball and with a well-disciplined move, tore up the pitch for the first try of the afternoon. This set the scene for a further four tries from the home side as they showcased the clinical and disciplined rugby played throughout the season. Stafford fought hard throughout the half and never stopped contesting for the ball, but couldn’t cauterise the Bridgnorth attack. Stafford went into half time trailing by 35 – 0 against the league leaders.
The second half continued the same for the home side as they ran in an early try to take the points tally to 40. Stafford rallied and a bright period of play saw Dean Ainger going across the line for the try only to be inexplicably called back for a Stafford penalty. As legs started to tire Bridgnorth ran in another five tries to entertain a raucous set of home supporters and close out the game.
