Stafford 1st XV travelled to South Birmingham to meet a Camp Hill team sitting mid table. The Stafford XV still lacked continuity with continuing injuries and unavailability causing selection headaches for the coaching team.
The first 23 minutes of the game saw a practiced display of rugby by the home side, playing to their strengths and running in four converted tries against a frustrated travelling Stafford. The visitors then managed to halt the tide and for the remainder of the half remained camped within touching distance of the home side try line. Stafford dominated the remaining periods of play, but couldn’t find the final touch to carry the ball across the line.
The opening part of the second half saw Stafford continue with the hard work and besiege the Camp Hill defence. The afternoon changed again when Stafford were reduced to fourteen players, followed by Tom Bell limping from the pitch to join the injury list. Camp Hill took advantage of an extended 10 minutes to take two more tries. Once the Stafford XV were back up to full strength they returned to a sustained assault on the opponents defence. The Stafford forwards eventually breached the tiring defence with a great driving try, Steve Rowlands dropping over the line and Rich Martin converting.
