A strong second half provides rich pickings for a travelling Kidderminster as they descend on the County Ground.

Stafford 0 – 34 Kidderminster

Stafford welcomed Kidderminster to the County Ground for the penultimate home game of the season. The Worcestershire team travelled looking to consolidate their top half of the table position, the home side seeking the elusive win to cement the buffer between themselves and the bottom three.

A flurry of opening exchanges were bought to an abrupt halt through a Kidderminster penalty which propelled the visitors into an early lead. Stafford fought their way back into the game and playing some good rugby pinned the opposition in their own half. The home side built momentum but continually allowed the visitors respite through minor penalties which temporarily relieved the pressure and allowed them to catch their breath. The half continued in the same pattern with Stafford having huge periods of territorial dominance which couldn’t be converted into points. Towards the end of the half Kidderminster mounted an attack of their own forcing the home side into defence on their own try line. A yellow card temporarily reduced Stafford to fourteen on the pitch and the visitors took full advantage to run in a converted try and extend their lead. Stafford went into half time trailing by 0 – 10, but having had extended periods of territorial dominance.

Kidderminster came flying into the second half, putting Stafford under immediate pressure. The home side mounted a strong defence, repelling several attacks but the visitors eventually found their way across the line for their second try of the afternoon. With a full complement, back on the pitch Stafford tried to fight their way back into the match, injuries to Callum Hoy and Dave Wareham disrupted the comeback and depleted the available resource on the bench. A further Kidderminster try killed off any outside chance of a resurgence and with ten minutes left on the clock the referees whistle was an almost constant sound as tired Stafford legs continued to battle. Two more Kidderminster tries finished the game, earning the visitors the try bonus and all five points.
