Camp Hill 44 – 0 Stafford
With the first day of spring knocking on the door Stafford travelled to Birmingham for their penultimate away league game of the season. With Camp Hill fighting their way around a possible promotion position in the league and having lost the away fixture over the last few seasons, it was never going to be an easy afternoon of rugby for the County Town team.
The first ten minutes of the game saw both teams throwing themselves into the encounter with neither side being able to gain an appreciable advantage. Stafford could have gone into the lead with the first penalty of the afternoon, but it flew slightly wide of the posts. A Camp Hill penalty followed by a try from the restart gave the home side a sudden sizeable lead. The afternoon continued to disintegrate for the visitors when a dazed Stu Lewis came off the pitch to force a shuffling of positions. Camp Hill finished the half clinically three further tries securing them the bonus point and effectively the game. Stafford went into half time trailing by 25 – 0 but fighting bravely against a strong opposition.
Two further tries by the home side opened the scoring for the second half. A scrapping Stafford managed to muscle their way back into the game and began to find some success against a solid defence. The visitors spent some good periods of play camped in the opposition half, but with luck deserting the team for the afternoon they couldn’t grab any reward through points on the board. Camp Hill had the last word with a try which closed the game and took the home side up to 2nd in the league.
