The Staffies Bull Terriers Junior touch team took part in their first regional development training day and tournament at Camp Hill.

The Staffies Bull Terriers Junior touch team took part in their first regional development training day and tournament at Camp Hill today.

It was a very wet and windy day but that didn't deter the youngsters from getting stuck in.

Many of the team, who only started playing a few weeks ago, moved up a few age groups to form a team in the U15s category against experienced teams from Pershore, Camp Hill and Cheltenham.

The players worked incredibly hard, demonstrating core touch skills to the regional selectors, and winning all their pool games. They then managed to overcome Camp Hill in the semi finals before coming up against a solid team from Cheltenham in the tournament final. At half time the Staffies were 3-1 down, and feeling exhausted. But with fantastic effort, and brilliant teamwork they got back into the game early on in the second half and with 5 min remaining scores were level at 3-3. Both teams gave everything on the pitch, but the Staffies fitness and teamwork created one further try to finish the match with a 4-3 win, and so they head home exhausted, happy and unbeaten all day.

The team are back to training for the next tournament on 29th May. Junior training is on Monday nights between 6-7pm at Stafford Rugby Club. Everyone from u9 to u15 (incl non-members) is welcome to join them.
